Comparative identification of the leaf epidermis microstructures of several Sedum species

Abstract Objective: To provide scientific references for the identification of the 4 Sedum medicinal species and the other 2 species of the same Genus and to probe into the identification value of stomatal parameters.Methods: The microscopic characters of the leaf epidermis of the 6 Sedum species collected from different places in Hubei province were observed and researched under light microscope respectively.And the common characters and the differences of the leaf epidermis microstructures and stomatal parameters of different species were compared to obtain the identified characters.Results: Besides some common characters,there were obvious differences of the 6 species on the morphology,size,arrangement of the leaf epidermis cells and the stomatal distribution and the like.Conclusion: The 6 Sedum species can be authenticated easily according to the cells shape and the arragenment of blade,vein,leaf base and leaf margin.In addition,the stomatal index and the stoma density can hardly help identify and classify the Sedum species.
