Approaches to the Selection and Breeding of Ornamental Varieties

摘要 Chinese flower industry has faced immense opportunities and challenge after en-trance into WTO. It is beneficial to improve international competitivability by breeding more new varieties with self-owned property right and key for Chinese flower industry towards worldwide market to establish breeding system with characteristics of ornamental plants. The main breeding approach to new ornamental varieties was analyzed in this paper. Both traditional and modern molecular breeding were compared in creating new variety. Tradition-al breeding methods are currently advisable and economical for Chinese ornamentals breed-ing.
